Two films by Iranian female directors to head to Spain

Iran’s ‘Exam’ and ‘Violet’ are to vie at the Bilbao Int'l Festival of Documentary and Short Films “ZINEBI” in Spain.

Iran’s ‘Exam’ and ‘Violet’ have been shortlisted to compete at the upcoming edition of the Bilbao International Festival of Documentary and Short Films “ZINEBI” in Spain.

‘Exam’ by Sonia Haddad and ‘Violet’ by Qasideh Golmakani will represent Iran at the 61st edition of the Spanish festival, Iranian media outlets reported.

“A teenage girl involves in the process of delivering a pack of cocaine to its client, and she got stuck in a weird cycle of occurrences,” a synopsis for Haddad’s film reads.

‘Exam’ has attended several international festivals, including the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada and the Uppsala International Short Film Festival in Sweden. It has managed to won the Golden Star at the third El Gouna Film Festival in Egypt last month.

Meanwhile, the participation of ‘Violet’ in ZINEBI marks its first international appearance.

“Just before the wedding ceremony, Ezi notices that her sister’s marriage rings are lost. She tries to find a solution before the groom’s family finds out,” the plot’s summary reads.

The 61st edition of the ZINEBI will take place in Spain on November 8-11, 2019.

The winners of the festival’s Gold prizes will be automatically nominated for the Academy Awards (AKA the Oscars).
